Junior
The UK’s Junior Conservatoires hold a unique position in the pre-tertiary music education landscape, providing a high quality, distinctive experience for gifted and talented young musicians complementing and supporting the musical experience gained in their schools, Music Education Hubs, equivalent local networks in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and the UK’s national orchestras, choirs and ensembles. Under the aegis of Conservatoire UK, Junior Conservatoires reach out to young musicians, irrespective of their backgrounds, raising aspiration, fostering a life-long engagement with music and providing progression routes for those who wish to pursue their studies at a higher level.
Mission
- To offer specialist musical education to school-age musicians complementing and supporting their experiences in schools and local communities
- To identify and nurture musical potential
- To work in harmony with other pre-tertiary music education providers to ensure that all young musicians have access to viable progression routes that can enable them to fulfil their goals
- To provide a stimulating environment and a varied and relevant curriculum in which musical creativity and imagination can flourish
- To enable young musicians with similar talents and aspirations to come together and share their passion for music and the performing arts
- To widen access to conservatoire training through the provision of high quality tuition appropriate to a student’s ability and potential
- To raise aspiration and offer the intensive technical and musical preparation required for further study at tertiary level
- To foster a life-long engagement with music and the performing arts To create a friendly, safe and supportive atmosphere that respects individual learning needs and aspirations
- To keep abreast of developments in pre-tertiary music education in the UK and overseas ensuring that the UK Junior Conservatoires continue to provide a high quality, distinctive and relevant experience
